Woman of the week – Lipika Biswas

Today, we bring you the story of a fashion designer, who is already making a name for herself in the fashion world and has a huge Insta fam, who adores her. If fashion has ever enticed you, read this Lipika Biswas  story for some much-needed inspiration.

How was your childhood?

I was born and brought up in Delhi. I remember being a very naughty kid and quite a trouble maker. I was an average student in school but was fond of playing all sorts of sports. One thing I am really proud of is that my family was (and still is ) always very supportive. Growing up in Delhi, which is one of India’s fashion destinations, the sense of style and fashion came quite naturally to me. Right from childhood, I was surrounded by people who had an eye for fashion, and somehow that contributed to making me decide on a career in the fashion industry.

What did you aspire to be when you were little?

I always wanted to be a fashion designer. I remember making different clothes for my dolls even when I was really small. I am lucky that my family was always very supportive and inspired me to reach my goal.

Could you take us through your work, please give us a brief about it?

In a nutshell, my work involves creating an idea and transforming that idea into creative content in the form of posts. I believe in the fact that my audience will only like my posts and follow me if I am able to genuinely connect with them and to do that I have to consistently post creative and unique content that they are able to relate to.

What made you choose this line of work? Was there an incident that inspired it?

I was born and brought up in Delhi. Growing up in Delhi, which is one of India’s fashion destinations, the sense of style and fashion came quite naturally to me. Right from childhood, I was surrounded by people who had an eye for fashion, and somehow that contributed to making me decide on a career in the fashion industry. So in a way becoming a fashion blogger was a natural progression for me.

What does your daily routine look like?

My typical day starts with browsing through my emails and responding to them. Most days I also post my contents on my insta handle. After that, I prepare for my shoot. This often takes a lot of time as it involves creating the right background for my shoot and also my costume. Once everything is according to the theme I get busy with shoots. Often it’s more than one shooting session which takes up the whole daylight for me. In the evenings I generally keep myself busy with photo and video editing and preparing my content for the next day’s post. I also try to keep most of my meetings with PR and media agencies in the evenings.

What do you think are your biggest achievements?

Getting featured in Radio one Pune, radio indigo Bangalore. Also awarded as Rising Fashion blogger in  2018

Was it difficult in the beginning to follow your dreams?

In the beginning, the most difficult part is to know what it takes to follow your dream. It often takes a lot of sacrifices and working out of your regular comfort zone. Life becomes slightly easy if you know which path to take.

What are some of the challenges you deal with even today? And, how do you overcome them?

Everyone is entitled to their views and I respect that but what upsets me sometimes are the trolls. I have learned to ignore them lately and channelize my energy towards more positive things.

With success also comes failure. So, tell us, how do you deal with failures? What keeps you going?

Frankly speaking in my line of job there is hardly any time for regretting a failure or missed opportunity. The best way to deal with failures is to focus on the current job at hand.

Do you have a mantra or motto for life?

Give my 100% and leave the rest to the Almighty

Has the pandemic hindered your future plans? How are you dealing with it?

I don’t think there is anyone in this world who has not been affected by the pandemic. Even today things are not the same as it was a year back. What it taught me is that nothing in this world is constant and we should always be ready for change. Adapting to a situation, no matter how bad it is, is the only way to deal with such calamities. It also taught me not to take anything for granted.

What do you have in store for the future?

I want to launch my own line of organic clothing

Do you have any advice for our readers?

The current pandemic situation has created a lot of negativity around all of us but believe me this is all temporary and this like everything else will pass. What really matters is how you have utilized this time to be a better “you”. Remember that time never comes back and it’s totally up to us how we utilize it.

If someone wishes to choose your line of work, what is the advice for them? How do they go about it?
